Developer Supersaurus added Robin Hood to the roster during the pre-release Next Fest testing period, expanding the roster of 12 fable and fairy tale characters. On the developer's patch notes, the studio described his core identity for competitive play:

"The Merry Man of Sherwood Forest is now playable. If you enjoy dancing out of your opponent's reach and pelting them with arrows, check him out!" — the developer's Steam announcement

What Are Robin Hood's Special Moves?

Sharp Shot is Robin Hood's primary projectile attack for controlling grounded lanes. Inputting neutral special or side special fires a standard arrow straight ahead. Holding the input charges the shot, releasing an arrow with higher velocity, increased damage, and greater knockback that can eliminate high-damage opponents near stage boundaries.

Cover Fire serves as Robin Hood's up special recovery tool. Tapping the input causes him to flip upward while shooting an arrow downward beneath him. Holding the input alters the trajectory into a horizontal leap while firing at a downward diagonal angle. This attack protects his return to the stage ledge while disrupting enemies waiting below.

Arm Sport functions as his down special utility move. Activating it flips a small coin upward in front of Robin Hood. If the coin makes contact with an enemy fighter, it places a tracking marker above their head.

Ricochet Shot represents Robin Hood's ultimate attack. When triggered with the ultimate button, he leaps into the air and aims a reticle in any direction. The fired arrow bounces off solid stage surfaces and walls, striking targets positioned behind obstacles.

How Does the Coin Targeter Mechanic Work?

Targeting is a status applied to opponents that alters arrow trajectories. Landing the down special coin flip marks the target, but Robin Hood also applies this marker through his forward throw and up smash attacks. When an enemy carries the marker, standard neutral special arrows automatically curve toward that opponent rather than traveling in a straight line.

Marking opponents allows Robin Hood to play around platforms and defensive movement. In standard 1v1 encounters, throwing a coin forces defensive reactions because opponents must shield or dodge to avoid being marked. Players who shield the coin leave themselves open to follow-up grabs, allowing Robin Hood to land forward throws and secure the mark regardless.

The tracking effect ends after a set duration or once an arrow connects. Because uncharged shots travel quickly once guided, marked opponents struggle to land safely back on the stage surface after taking aerial knockback.

Robin Hood Matchups and Aerial Combat

Robin Hood faces clear disadvantages when opponents challenge him from directly above. In gameplay tests on YouTube by C-Stick Gaming, the creator noted that Robin Hood lacks dedicated anti-air hitboxes to contest aerial approaches, leaving him vulnerable to fighters with rapid vertical movement like frog prince and the Ice Queen.

Close-quarters brawlers such as Big Bad Wolf also apply heavy pressure when they bypass projectile range. Because Robin Hood's normal attacks possess slower startup frame data than dedicated rushdown characters, maintaining distance through back air attacks, retreat jumps, and uncharged arrows remains mandatory.

In team competitions across squad saga, Robin Hood provides safe assistance from the backline. His charged arrows reach across large arenas to strike objective carriers, disrupt enemy cart pushes in Pearl Plunder, and contest goals in sports stages. Collecting offensive items between rounds compensates for his weaker close-range defense.

Choosing Tactics for Robin Hood in Combat

Selecting the appropriate special attack depends on stage spacing, opponent behavior, and whether you are playing singles or team competitions listed on the official Steam store page.

Move OptionIn-Match SituationStrategic Trade-off
Charged Sharp ShotDistant grounded opponents or offstage edge-guardsLong charge time leaves Robin Hood stationary and vulnerable to rushdown attacks
Arm Sport Coin FlipNeutral mid-range standoffs when opponents favor shieldsShort range requires precise spacing, yielding no damage if the coin misses
Angled Cover FireReturning to stage or recovering from horizontal blast zonesLocks recovery angle once initiated, making mistimed leaps easy to punish

Using uncharged arrows controls ground movement until the opponent commits to an approach. Once you secure space, setting up coin marks creates consistent scoring windows across both competitive matches and squad rounds.
